Job Description

AFFCO is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated livestock manager to join our team.

They will lead livestock procurement and manage a high‑performing buying team. This role ensures AFFCO plants receive livestock on time, to specification, and within purchasing guidelines, while growing AFFCO’s supplier base and market share.

Key responsibilities:

  • Review pricing daily and report competitor activity to the National Livestock Manager
  • Develop procurement strategies and grow key account business
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Source livestock to AFFCO specifications and resolve supplier issues
  • Support industry events, field days, and supplier engagement activities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the livestock buying team
  • Competently use procurement systems, digital tools, and industry platforms (e.g., NAIT)
  • Foster collaboration and ensure operational standards are met


Qualifications

To be successful in this role we are looking for the following skills: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the rural sector
  • Strong track record of maintaining and developing supplier relationships
  • Solid understanding of livestock production, farming systems, and seasonal supply patterns
  • Previous leadership or team management experience
  • Knowledge of national and international meat and livestock market trends
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment
